Memories Captured: How to Pose for Pictures

Last month we took my kids and my nephew to the park to pose for pictures so we could give my parents a picture of all their grandkids for Christmas. This was just a couple weeks after I’d taken pictures of my kids for our Christmas cards, and I thought I’d trained my girls well. Basically, all the kids older than age 1 just needed to constantly be prepared for me to be taking pictures. So, they needed to smile and look towards the camera so that if the baby happened to be in the right position for a picture, I could take one. I’ve always figured that even though I don’t have a great camera, I can always take enough pictures to get a few good ones.

Here’s what I got:

Yes, Reagan’s trying to get the snot off her hand in that last one. She was amazing. It was honestly one of the funnier experiences I’ve had with my kids. It was really impossible for Reagan to just smile for a picture.

I hoped I had one good one in the bunch, but I didn’t. Thanks to my brother’s Photoshop skills, I ended up with a usable picture.

I’m linking up with Alison and Galit for the new monthly Memories Captured link up.

  5. That was a great series of photos. I can’t believe you caught the sneeze in action! I was cracking up. Thank goodness for photoshop!

  6. I have 3 girls – 16, 8, and 7. The 7 yr old will model, but the other two either make goofy faces, look away, or refuse to have their pictures taken.

    Hilarious post

  7. Aw, so cute!

At Thanksgiving, we tried to get a pic with my boys and all their cousins… 7 kids under 7. It was not pretty.

  8. –HaaaHa.

    I understand.

    – So hard to get everybody to smile and do what you want!

    Xx

  9. I love so much that Reagan is keeping alive my tradition of ruining every family photo or video in some way. I don’t think I took a good photo — or a photo where I was not being a hellion — even once. Also, these are the prettiest and best kids. Thanks for sharing these!

  10. This is too funny, you made a cool photo series and I love what Reagan is doing. :-)
If I tell my son to pose, it’s never working out. I have to tell him something funny, or just make him smile naturally in some other way. If he smiles on command its a rather fake and frozen smile, he’s not smiling with his eyes.

    • That’s true. When I’m taking just my kids for pictures, I usually go for more candid pictures and just let them have fun and figure I’ll get some good pictures, and that usually works out better.

  11. I love this, it’s hilarious! And isn’t Photoshop amazing?

  12. haha i love all of them! :)
